Great concept but your colors are getting in the way. They are all the same tone, you need some contrast. Also, the assignment is to combine the type illustration/effect with the illustration. Its missing something. Get it to meet the assignment asap.
Try scaling your items to different sizes, so they don't blend too much. The placement can also be experimented with, so there is no empty spaces so our eyes don't float away. Also what is that black thing in the main guy's armpit? Small changes in color can make your piece more cohesive with all its parts. You could overlap a little, something to think about.
Love the 80 vibe that your going with only thing that is bugging me is SO much white lol. Maybe cover them up with more characters or lines but good job
