I would have loved to use the top two but I can't. The transparency filter would have been a nightmare to attempt to print. The bottom one is the finished product.
Making clipping masks could have worked if you wanted to keep those patterns in the masks. Not sure if you tried using clipping masks or some effects to get the desired effect.
